Practical applications of design optimization

This book is dedicated to design engineers and postgraduate students who are interested in the field of design optimization. The scope is sufficiently ample to cover a range of problems solved by the application of optimization technology, which enables us to solve problems encountered in our daily engineering practice. The method is very straightforward with many figures including several computer applications to solve some of the proposed problems. Throughout the text, current techniques and some software applications are brought together.

Advanced techniques in the optimum design of structures

Seven co-authors of this book describe the best aspects of this field of investigation. Each chapter and its author are as follows: From CAD to CHAOSD: Structural Design and Optimization Techniques (S. Hernández, U. of Coruña), Sensitivity Analysis in Static and Dynamic Problems (S. Kodiyalam, General Electric), Adaptative Finite Element Methods in Computer Aided Engineering (N. Kikuchi y T. Torigaki, U. de Michigan), Entropy-based Optimization Methods for Engineering Design (A.B. Templeman, U. of Liverpool), Mixed Elements in Shape Optimal Design of Structures based on Compliance (R.P.

Structural optimization of aerospace vehicles with emphasis on high-reliability

NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and NASA Langley Research Center arranged a workshop attended by most of the accredited industrial and academic professionals in optimum design in Long Beach (USA), in April, 1998. This publication contains two parts: The first part is given by S. Hernandez regarding local and global multi-disciplinary optimization and the second part is given by G. Vanderplaats, about the present situation and the upcoming challenges in the numerical optimization from the theoretical and practical view point, .
